Hyperpigmentation, the mask of pregnancy, liver spots, discoloration, or darkened skin by any other name is called melasma (literally, dark skin). Melanocytes gone wild are to blame. These pigment producing cells become stimulated to produce extra melanin resulting in patches of discoloration. More than six million Americans of all ethnic backgrounds are affected by this hard to treat condition. Although it is mostly a distressing cosmetic concern for women, men can also be affected. Skin is particularly vulnerable in the summer as sunshine is a primary trigger of melasma. Do not despair as help is available and the Abbey’s two-prong approach has been very successful in providing relief.

| Fountain of Youth Quick Tip: Youthful lip color. |
|
| For fuller, more youthful appearing lips, use lip gloss in neutral or light colors. If vibrant tones are more suitable to you, choose soft tones such as berry, rose, or apricot. For a finishing touch, a gentle swish of clear gloss in the middle of your lower lip will create the illusion of fullness. Avoid darker colors and obvious lip liners as these are aging and make lips appear smaller.

| Skin Care Cosmetics: Blush |

| Less is Younger ~~ Keep it Natural
Skin that is losing firmness needs less makeup, not more. Makeup tends to slide into and accentuate even tiny facial furrows. Mineral powders applied with a light hand reflect light and minimize wrinkles and sagging.
Blusher can provide subtle contours to your face and it should be applied with a light hand on your brush. Apply blush with a brush in circular motions from the hairline towards the center of your face, shading the apples of your cheeks. There should be no streaks or lines but a gentle swash of color with disappearing edges. Feather the shading so that the color is deepest towards the hairline. By starting at the hairline you are applying the most concentrated color where you want it most. If your facial contours are falling, obtain a lifting effect by lightly brushing a shimmery shadow of powder across the top of your cheekbones. |

"THE FAT JUST FALLS OFF!” was the screaming headline staring from the rack at the grocery store checkout. Right. And Dorothy and Toto were also right there in line. Okay, Barnum was right and I bought the copy anyway.
