SKIN CARE COSMETICS

Mineral powders should gliiiiide onto your skin.  Gliding is accomplished best when the skin is smooth and dry and your brush is soft and clean.  If you find that your are leaving patches of too-heavy powder or if your brush just drags across your skin, here are some solutions:

  • Wash your brush.  Always use a brush that is clean and dry.  Skin treatment creams can build up on the ends of the brush, holding too much powder and causing brush hairs to clump.  Thickened brush hairs result in heavy, uneven distribution of powder.  A clean brush is dry and the bristles are softly separated which allows an even distribution of the powder.  You can never wash your brush too often.  Wash your brush right after using it in the morning and it will have the whole day to dry.
  • Allow treatment creams time to absorb into the skin.  Time is always a factor in the morning rush to get ready, but if you clean, tone, and treat your face early in your morning routine, your skin will have time to absorb the creams before you apply the foundation powder.
  • Dust a very thin layer of finishing powder on your skin with an oversized brush before applying foundation powder.  This will help set any excess treatment creams and provide a smooth surface for the foundation.
  • Apply thin layers of foundation rather than applying a heavy swoop of color.

If patches still appear, use a clean brush to whiff off excess.  In some cases, you may have to remove the powder from an area with a swipe of toner.  The beauty of mineral powders is that you can easily repair an area by feathering in a new layer of powder to match what is already there.
