Summer Hair Oil Treatment

NOTE:  This is an excellent treatment using Lazarus Scalp Stimulation Treatment Oil for thinning hair.

Summer hair becomes dull, dry, and damaged from sunshine, wind, and swimming.   Oil treatments provide nourishing emollient and antioxidant benefits to both the hair and scalp, stimulating, strengthening, and moisturizing.  They can be applied warm or at room temperature to dry hair and then shampooed from the hair.  They also can be applied in the evening and left on overnight to be shampooed out the next morning.  Routine use will leave your hair and scalp healthier and more balanced.  While essential oils and botanical infusions provide excellent conditioning, even a simple one-oil treatment can be very effective.

Olive Oil Hair Conditioning Treatment
  1. You will need 1/4 – 1/3 of a cup of olive oil (directly from your pantry shelf).  The amount you need will depend upon the length of your hair.
  2. If you would like to use warmed oil, place the oil in a heat proof bottle or measuring cup and place in a bowl of hot water for a few minutes.  Warmed oil increases the hair’s ability to absorb the oil.
  3.  Place some oil in your hands, rubbing your hands together.  Begin at your front hairline and use the pads of your fingers to massage the oil into your scalp with small circular strokes, working back to the crown of your head.  Put more oil on your hands as needed.
  4.  Repeat this massaging action at the temple area, moving toward the back of the head and down through the nape of the neck.
  5.  Continue adding oil to your hands and massaging into your scalp for three minutes.
  6.  Add more oil to the palms of your hands, rub the oil between your hands, and massage oil into segments of hair from your scalp out to the ends of the hair.
  7.  If you have extra oil left over, massage it into your knees, feet, elbows, legs, etc.  Discard any excess oil.
  8.  Cover your hair with a shower cap (or plastic wrap).   Maximize the effect by wrapping a hot moist towel around the plastic cap for twenty to thirty minutes.  The natural heat released from the scalp will enhance the conditioning process.   If you want to leave this on your hair overnight, cover your hair with a plastic cap and sleep with a towel on your pillow.
  9.  Shampoo and condition your hair as usual.

NOTE:  Use lesser amounts of oil on dry hair without shampooing it out if your hair is in need of conditioning or untangling.  The oil is very useful for untangling hair gnarls.

CINNAMON AS A HEALTH FOOD

A recent study in Germany reported that taking cinnamon extract daily successfully reduced blood sugar by 10%.  In another study cinnamon slashed cholesterol by 13%.  Water-soluble cinnamon extract is recommended (The People’s Pharmacy folks recommend Cinnulin PF found in health food stores).  While too much cinnamon can be harmful, Consumer Reports found no reason you couldn’t just sprinkle about three-quarters of a teaspoon on your morning oatmeal, toast, or whatever you like.  Just don’t overdo it.

BUGS OFF

Aside from the irritation, itch, and pain involved, bug bites and stings send more than 500,000 people to emergency rooms every year with potentially fatal allergic reactions.   Here are two simple ways to help you and your children keep the pests at bay:

  1. Wear light colored clothing.  Many insects are attracted to bright colors and floral patterns as they see in the ultraviolet spectrum.
  2. Hold a branch above your head to keep insects away from your face.  Some mosquitoes and gnats swarm naturally to the highest part of the body, or an extension of it.
