10 Great Ingredients For Natural Anti-Aging Eye Skincare

As you age, you may notice your eyes show the first signs of time with under-eye bags, dark circles, and crow’s feet. But with a naturally healthy skincare routine, you can fight the signs of premature aging around your eyes and restore your youthful, vibrant skin.

The following natural ingredients may help reduce signs of aging around your eyes.

1. Rosehip Oil

Rosehip oil is packed with antioxidants and vitamin A in the form of retinol. It can help increase your skin’s production of collagen, which declines as you age. Rosehip oil is high in moisturizing fatty acids such as linoleic and linolenic acid, which help to prevent water loss from your skin cells.

Put all these properties together, and you have one powerhouse of an ingredient that can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. With time, rosehip oil may help your skin regenerate lost tissue. Additionally, the retinol in rosehip oil helps lighten areas of scars and hyperpigmentation, and its antioxidants and polyphenols help reduce inflammation, tame redness, and promote a smooth, youthful glow.

2. Carrot Seed Oil

In a conversation about anti-aging skincare, we’d be remiss if we didn’t recommend carrot seed oil. Carrot seed oil has a powerful combination of antioxidants that reduce redness, inflammation, fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots.

Intriguingly, this oil also appears to offer some UVB protection. While we wouldn’t recommend replacing your natural, mineral sunscreen with carrot seed oil entirely, you can add carrot seed oil to your routine to boost your protection against damaging UVB rays. Over time, this extra layer of protection may help reduce wrinkles, dark spots, and other signs of damage.

Finally, the antibacterial and antifungal properties of carrot seed oil make this ingredient a great one to reach for if you suffer from rashes, acne, and skin infections.

3. Marula Oil

Marula oil is a great option if you have dry skin. Its hydrating fatty acids and antioxidants provide abundant moisture and prevent cell water loss.

Beyond its hydrating benefits, marula oil can also help protect the delicate skin around your eyes from sun damage.

4. Matrixyl

Matrixyl has many anti-aging benefits. It is a combination of two peptides: palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7.

This combination helps emulate the skin’s natural collagen-producing peptides—which means it can help boost collagen production with regular use.

5. Argireline

Argireline is a natural ingredient that helps block the neurotransmitters that cause muscles to contract. This compound works when applied topically over the area you wish to treat.

For instance, you might apply Argireline to the areas around, under, and between your eyes to help keep those muscles relaxed. Encouraging muscle relaxation allows the skin to rest without being stretched and wrinkled—which should help reduce or eliminate the appearance of lines.

6. Hyaluronic Acid

If your skin needs hydration, hyaluronic acid is a fantastic solution.

Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, which means it’s an incredibly potent moisturizer that helps prevent water loss from your skin cells.

With regular use, you should see a reduction in the number and depth of wrinkles, as well as smoother, plumper, firmer, and more elastic skin.

7. Alpha-Lipoic Acid

Alpha-lipoic acid, or ALA, offers sun protection, inflammation-fighting antioxidants, and wrinkle reduction. For best results, apply it regularly around your eye area. One study reported that ALA helps combat the signs of aging so effectively that participants' fine lines and wrinkles dramatically decreased over time.

The antioxidants in ALA also may help your skin heal from wounds, pollution, sunburns, smoking damage, and stress.

8. Peptides

Peptides are short-chain amino acids that your body’s protein is made of. Without peptides, you wouldn’t be able to build or repair most of your soft tissue. However, peptide production tends to decline with age. That’s why some people enhance their natural peptides with topical (and even internal) peptide supplements.

When added to eye care serums and creams, peptides may help boost your skin’s collagen production and other vital cellular building blocks. Routine peptide use helps reduce wrinkles, promote elasticity, and protect from environmental damage.

9. Ginseng

Ginseng can help slow down the natural loss of collagen that occurs with aging. It also helps promote further collagen production, which can help with skin elasticity and wrinkle reduction. Ginseng also contains many antioxidants, which help protect against skin damage and promote healing from stress, trauma, and irritants.

Ginseng may also help enhance circulation, so when you apply it to your under-eye area, it may diminish puffy bags and restore a more youthful, rested look. Finally, ginseng can help lighten dark spots and ease inflammation.

10. Vitamin C

Vitamin C is so well-known for its antioxidant properties that many people take it orally for health and wellness. Applied topically, vitamin C is as powerful in helping prevent free-radical damage that causes your skin to show signs of age.

Vitamin C can help reduce wrinkles, prevent UV damage, heal wounds, boost collagen production, brighten age-related hyperpigmentation, encourage wound healing, and smooth skin texture. However, the fact that one ingredient can do all of those things at once means vitamin C has a well-deserved place on our list of favorite anti-aging eye care ingredients.

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Natural Eye Care Routine

The full benefits of these ingredients will be realized if you apply them consistently and frequently—morning and night, if possible.

Choose products without harsh chemicals, irritants, or harmful additives. Using a face cream with drying alcohols and toxic chemicals will negate the effects of these natural, healing compounds before they even get a chance to work.

If you’re unsure which formulas are good and which could be harmful, you can always safely choose something from our list of natural anti-aging products. Abbey St Clare products are proudly formulated with natural ingredients and no harmful additives.

It’s important to know that your individual results may vary. We advise that you see a dermatologist if you need personalized skincare advice for a specific problem.
