Beat the Heat: Keep makeup looking good while retaining sunscreen protection.

September 20, 2011

If you are outdoors in constant sunshine, sunscreen should be reapplied every few hours to be effective. Choose a sunscreen that is water-resistant. This should be the first item on your skin after cleansing and toning, before additional treatment creams and serums. The Abbey's Yellow Creme contains translucent zinc oxide for sun protection. You will be amazed that mineral makeup stays fresh looking in spite of heat, humidity, and sweating. Our mineral makeup foundations contain high levels of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide commensurate with high (SPF>30) protection. Use a soft colored blush, or none at all as you will have a natural flush, if you know you will be out in sweltering weather all day. Sunscreen can be applied several hours later over mineral makeup, and an additional swish of foundation or finishing powder can freshen your look. If your day is spent mostly indoors with only occasional forays outside, the routine would be the same as above, except you may not have to replace your sunscreen. Use a light layer of Matte</em> or Oil Control Primer before applying foundation powders for extra oil control.
