Mineral Foundation Powder Application Tip

Mineral Foundation Powder Application Tip

Mineral foundation and finishing powders should glide onto your skin. Gliding is best accomplished when the skin is smooth and dry and your brush is soft and clean.

If you find that you are leaving blotchy patches of powder or if your brush drags across your skin, here are some solutions:

  • Wash your brush. Always use a clean brush. A clean brush is dry with bristles that softly separate. Skin treatment creams can build up on the ends of the bristles, causing them to retain excess powder and brush hairs to clump. Thickened brush hairs result in heavy, uneven distribution of powder. You can never wash your brush too often. Routinely wash your brush with shampoo or bar soap right after use in the morning and it will be dry and soft when you next need it.
  • Allow treatment creams time to absorb into the skin before applying powder. Time is always dear in the morning rush, but if you clean, tone, and treat your face early in your morning routine, your skin will have time to absorb the creams before you apply the foundation powder. Massage excess creams into the skin to enhance absorption.
  • Apply thin layers of foundation rather than a single swoop of concentrated color. Use your kabuki brush to work powder into the skin rather than letting it sit on top of the skin.
  • Before applying foundation, dust your skin with a very fine layer of finishing powder using an oversized brush. This helps set any excess treatment creams and provides a smooth surface for the foundation.
  • Apply facial primers to minimize oil, smooth fine lines and enlarged pores, and establish a refined surface for cosmetics.
  • If patchiness still occurs, use a clean brush to whiff off excess. In some cases, you may have to remove the powder from an area with a swipe of toner. The beauty of mineral powders is that you can easily repair an area by feathering in fresh powder to blend with what is already there.
