Take Your Hair Care To A New Level With Natural Shampoo and Conditioner Treatments

We all love having a good hair day. But when factors such as heat damage, hair loss, and dandruff ravage your coif as well as your psyche, it’s stressful. If you constantly find yourself reaching for a hair tie or hat to cover your locks, a natural hair care regime can restore health, so you can love letting your hair down once again.

What’s in Your Products?

Before we talk about natural hair care solutions, let’s examine several ingredients commonly found in commercial shampoos and conditioners that wreak havoc on your hair. The following are additives that you should be especially aware of in hair products.

  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate: Surfactants are wetting agents that lower water’s surface tension and allow it to penetrate more easily. They are found in cleansers and oil and dirt removers, many causing a characteristic lather. While found in almost all cleaning products, all surfactants are not created equal. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a popular surfactant found in many shampoos but is considered among the most irritating. SLS causes skin dryness and redness, and should be avoided.

  • Silicones: Silicones are commonly used in cosmetic and hair products to provide improved softness, gloss, and feel. These water-insoluble agents coat the surface of the hair shaft, which makes it feel conditioned and shiny, but they sit on the surface, attracting dirt and oil. A main cause of product buildup, they are also difficult to wash out. Silicone buildup weighs hair down, making it look limp and lifeless.

  • Synthetic Fragrance: If the ingredient label on your products says “fragrance,” consider it a red flag. Synthetic fragrances can include a dangerous cocktail of chemicals, and many contain phthalates. In a study involving laboratory animals, phthalates were linked with reproductive issues.

Natural Hair Care Products and Ingredients

Natural hair care means products that are formulated with a concentration of plant oils and herbal extracts that are nourishing and kind to your hair and scalp. The following are natural hair products and ingredients that boast a long list of benefits.

Essential Oils

All-natural shampoo and conditioner treatments contain essential oils. Essential oils are extracted from trees, herbs, flowers, roots, or fruits and have hundreds of powerful chemical constituents that act both physiologically and psychologically. These oils give natural hair products their heavenly scent. Essential oils also deliver a broad range of health benefits, including:

  • A decrease in cortisol, otherwise known as the “stress hormone”
  • Increased immunity
  • Increased energy levels
  • Improved cognitive functioning
  • A decrease in symptoms associated with anxiety and depression
  • Pain reduction
  • Better sleep
  • Healthier hair and skin

Nettles

Looking for a natural dandruff shampoo? Our Nettles products were born from a request to create a hair care line that treated scalp eczema, dandruff, and irritation. Nettles is one of the most effective herbal extracts for hair care. It is strengthening and stimulates circulation at the scalp. The extract used in our Nettles Scalp Shampoo & Body Wash also promotes a healthy scalp by calming inflammation, which leads to itchiness and flaking. This host of benefits makes it an equally amazing body wash.

Other ingredients in our Nettles formulas include salicylic acid to cleanse and clarify the scalp, while caffeine and castor oil leave the hair looking beautifully healthy and promote growth.

A collateral benefit of the anti-inflammatory properties of nettles is that it helps minimize hair loss. A 2011 study showed that stinging nettle can block the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), thought to be one of the main causes of baldness, without any harmful side effects.

If you are shopping exclusively for a natural hair-loss shampoo, consider our Lazarus shampoo and leave-in conditioner.

Coffee and Cloves

For many, a good cup of joe is a morning staple. Even during those dreaded Monday mornings, coffee quickly boosts energy and improves mood.

But coffee can also work wonders when it comes to your coffee-colored coif. If you’re a brunette, or have brown and/or honey tones in your hair, consider our Coffee & Cloves Shampoo.

Along with its various antioxidants, coffee offers a natural remedy for those who want to enhance their hair color and disguise greys. We use arabica coffee and walnut powder in our shampoo to camouflage fine grey hairs and enhance the rich brown shade of your locks.

Aside from disguising grey hairs and enriching beautiful brown locks, coffee offers some other benefits when it comes to hair care.

The antioxidants found in coffee fight free radicals, which promotes cellular regeneration for a healthy scalp, which means healthy hair.  An International Journal of Dermatology study showed that caffeine can actually stimulate hair follicles, causing hair to grow thicker and faster.

The “cloves” in our Coffee & Cloves line comes from expensive clove bud essential oil. This delightful oil boasts many benefits for healthy hair and scalp follicles. Cloves also instill a sense of contentment and positive mood.

Other benefits of clove essential oil include relief from dandruff, a reduction in hair fall, reduced flaking, and an increase in hair thickness. The ingredients in Coffee & Cloves blend together to create an indulgent fragrance that makes each wash feel like a day at the spa.

Chamomile

Chamomile is often associated with stress relief and bedtime, but this powerful herb can also brighten your day if you have lighter locks.

Our Chamomile Shampoo/Leave-in Conditioner uses chamomile hydrosol and an essential oil-based formula to brighten dull blonde and grey hair, adding shine and softness. The intense moisturizing properties of this formula stave off dryness, resulting in a lush, healthy look. Inhaling the comforting aroma is calming for all ages.

A versatile herb, chamomile soothes a variety of other ailments. It has antiseptic elements that eliminate dirt and dead cells, increases metabolic activity for healthy growth, and helps minimize scalp inflammation, which leads to flaking.

Coconut Milk and Oil

When shopping for natural hair products, coconut milk and coconut oil are beneficial ingredients. Along with the delightful scent, coconut milk and coconut oil from the fruit of the palm tree is kind and gentle, nourishing hair naturally.

Coconut milk contains an abundance of vitamins, including niacin and folate, to nourish and condition. Its excellent moisturizing properties makes it beneficial for a dry, itchy and irritated scalp. It is particularly beneficial for restoring dry, damaged and brittle hair, soothing split ends.

Coconut oil is a popular holistic treatment for overall wellness, including oral and skin health. This emollient oil has a cooling quality which makes it beneficial for sensitive and inflamed skin conditions. It has a long history as a natural hair conditioning and moisturizing oil. It will soften, soothe, and nourish your scalp, which helps prevent breakage. It is not easily absorbed due to its large molecular size and this gives hair a lovely sheen.
